What is Band Camp?

Band Camp is a week-long series of rehearsals focused on learning this year's field show. The field show is what we perform at football halftime and marching band competitions. You will learn and memorize 7-8 minutes of music as well as learn to march. We will spend all of band camp learning the show, then all of the fall practicing to make it perfect. If you are in this year's marching band, you absolutely must be at band camp or you will not learn the field show!!

When is Band Camp?

Band Camp will run from August 9 to August 13. Rehearsal will be from 1pm-7pm every day. You must arrive at least 15 minutes before rehearsal begins. This means that if rehearsal starts at 11:30, you need to be at school at 11:15. We will begin every day on the football stadium field.

What to expect at Band Camp

Expect to work, and work really hard.
Expect to make new friends and have a great time.
Expect to get better at your instrument.
Expect to spend six hours in the sun every day.
Expect to get a serious work out!
Expect to be EXHAUSTED at the end of the day, and to feel great about it!

...and most importantly - expect to be a stronger, smarter, and more responsible human at the end of the week.

What to bring to Band Camp

Flip Folder and Lyre: This is absolutely necessary and something you probably need to go buy! We will not use music stands during band camp, but will instead put all of our music into a small folder that attaches to your instrument. Some instruments will also need a small piece of metal to attach it to your instrument called a Lyre. This can be purchased at any music store and ABSOLUTELY MUST be brought to every marching rehearsal! We recommended you go to Quinlan & Fabish Music for this - see the section below - just tell them you need a flip folder and lyre and what instrument you play.

Socks and athletic shoes: NO SANDALS, BOOTS, or OTHER SHOES INAPPROPRIATE FOR
MARCHING AROUND A FOOTBALL FIELD!

Your instrument and reeds/valve oil (Yes, there have been a few that have forgotten this before...)

Clothing: You will be running around a football field for six hours a day. Wear shorts and a t-shirt or school appropriate tank top. NO JEANS OR SWEATSHIRTS!

Sunscreen: sun poisoning, although rare at camp, is not fun. Sunburn, guaranteed from camp, is not
exactly pleasant either. Even if you never wear sunscreen, YOU NEED IT at band camp. Even if it is cloudy you can still get a sun burn. Even if you have dark skin you can still get a sun burn. Put some on in the morning before you leave your house, and then bring some with for reapplication at school. With all the sweating you will be doing it will probably wash off!

Water: This one is obvious. You probably will sweat a lot at band camp. During breaks, you will need to
fill up with water. Bring a LARGE water bottle, you'll need as much water as you can get!

PLEASE DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
WATER IS YOUR OTHER FRIEND.
YOU SHOULD DRINK WATER ON EVERY BREAK.

Chapstick: You'll be playing your instrument for six hours a day, your lips will get chapped!

Sunglasses: Sometimes we will be directly facing the sun when practicing, you need your eyes to see the music!

Hat (or some other appropriate head covering): It will keep the sun out of your eyes and face.
