"Acapella spits" project

Back to E-learning
In this project we will be using an app called Acapella to make our own quartet recordings! Acapella is NOT on the district iPads, if you choose to do this project you will have to use your own device. Acapella is a free app on iOS, there is an Android version but I don't think it works very well. The app offers a premium subscription that lets you do longer recordings and improves audio quality, that is totally optional.

At the bottom of this page there are special versions of two spits, "Mortal Kombat" and "Word Up." Each spit has been broken into four parts. Each part is the same for each instrument, so any instrument can play a complete version of the spit by making one recording of each part.

Your Finished Project will look something like this - https://youtu.be/W8Zrt36TZls

Steps:
  1. Download "Acapella" on your phone.
  2. Download the Acapella Spits at the bottom of the page. Print them, use a different device for music, or simply memorize them as you go.
  3. Click the Red Microphone at the bottom of the app to start a new video. Choose a frame that has four windows, one for each part. Select "30 seconds" for the video length.
  4. Choose a Spit, either "Mortal Kombat" or "Word Up." Record each part one at a time - USE HEADPHONES!!!
  5. When you are done, press "Share" in the top right corner. From here you can save the video directly to your phone by clicking "Camera Roll" on the bottom, or upload your video to YouTube or other social media.
  6. Submit your finished project to the form below. You can either upload the file from Camera Roll, or give me an unlisted YouTube link.

Tips:
  • Collaborate with a friend, or with your whole section! Under "Share" you can choose "Collaboration," this will let you send a link to a friend to record their own video in your un-finished boxes!
  • Make sure your instrument and device are positioned in such a way as to create the best sound. You don't want your bell right next to the microphone.
  • Try modifying the music to make it work for you. Maybe you want to bring something up or down on octave? Add or subtract a part? Make your own drum beat? Be creative!
  • Don't want to play spits? Play something else!
