Explore the world of composing with a simple way to generate a melody - Using your name!

Using the chart below
  1. Convert your name (first AND last, middle optional) into a line of note names
  2. Create and play a tune made out of your name. A guitar will certainly help with this but is not necessary
  3. The melody must be at least 8 measures long. This means you might have to repeat your name melody.
  4. You may not use the notes out of order or repeat notes unless your name calls for it.
  5. You should use any rhythms you think make your notes sound interesting.
  6. If you've got a guitar, record a video of your new tune
The buttons to the right are handouts that I made for this activity. If you have the ability to print, I would suggest printing one and just working through the project there. If you do not have the ability to print a document, you can still just use the worksheet as a guide and write on a separate piece of paper. 

What you MUST turn in for credit:
  1. A copy of your music. I want to see it. This could be a picture of what your wrote. This could be a "Document Scan" of what you wrote (there are lots of phone apps that allow this. If you end up writing your music using music notation software (MuseScore, Note Flight) you could just save those as a PDF and send me the file. I need to see the music!
  2. If you own a guitar, ​a video of you playing your melody. You should record yourself playing the tune and upload to YouTube. Then send me the link.
