Virtual Band Project:
Swing - Wind ENsemble

Back to E-Learning

Directions

In this project we will be making a VIRTUAL BAND through the magic of the internet! Mr Liska recently participated in a Virtual Band, which you can see right here (he's in the bottom left!) - https://youtu.be/HYVwcyuEG0c

To make this work, each member of the band will create a short video of them playing Swing by Robert W. Smith along with a backing track, upload the video to YouTube, and submit that video on the form below. You MUST play along with the backing track in order for our videos to line up, and you MUST have the backing track on headphones so we only hear your sound. This means you will probably need two devices for this project - one to record with and one to play the backing track. If you do not have two devices in your home, contact Mr. Liska for help.

Steps:
  1. Practice Swing, listen to it, remember it. It has been a while since we played it.
  2. Record your video. Make sure you have the backing track on headphones! You MUST BE IN TIME. You can not be late or early. You also have to play dynamics and especially articulations. Play it like you are performing it, not like you are alone in your room.
  3. Submit your video to the form below.

Tips:
  • PERCUSSION - I know Gus has a drum set at home, and there is only one other part, the vibes. If you have a piano, if you have a bell kit, if you would like to make up a simple groove with another drum that wouldn't interfere with the drum set - GO FOR IT. I would love for you to be involved.
  • Make sure your instrument and device are positioned in such a way as to create the best sound. You don't want your bell right next to the microphone.
  • We are going to create a collage of the videos for social media. If you would like to be included in the video collage, make sure we can see your face and instrument and that you are wearing East Aurora gear.
  • "Mideo" is an app that allows you to play an audio file while recording so that the project could be done on just one device. I haven't used this app, but try it out if you want to!
If you don't have all the music - Here is a PDF of all the parts!
Swing - Parts!
This is the track EVERYBODY must use. There are other versions of Swing on the YouTubes, everybody needs to use the same one.
Submit your video link here!
